Saif Ali Khan You have spoken in support of the #MeToo movement, saying harassment is terrible – and so has everyone who is asked to comment on it.īut the women who are putting their names to specific accusations, and the women who have come out to support them, say that they need the good men to stand up with them too – A, call out harassment if you witness it or turn down work with a repeat, known offender, or B, now, when the atmosphere is conducive to this conversation, support their stories if they know them to be true. So there’s a confluence now, it’s still a commercial movie, but people are acting more. It was films, and it was commercial, but it wasn’t Like, I preferred 'Omkara' and I preferred 'Parineeta', but my director – and these films were much more successful, 'Hum Tum' and 'Salaam Namaste' – when I’d come to the set, he’d say, ‘okay now stop acting like it’s some kind of art movie. I’m very happy with the kind of roles I’m being offered, I’m actually happier working today and happier doing 'Baazaar' than I was when I was playing that romantic comedy guy in 'Hum Tum' and 'Salaam Namaste', which I didn’t think was cinema. So you can just try and be normal about it. Now you can just be natural because the suit will tell you who he is, or the haircut, or whatever – many things will advertise who you are. Earlier, the set wouldn’t show it would be the same set, or the same so the actor has to go out of his way to kind of show who he is, and you’d get into mannerism. And I feel like, when I’m on the set, that it’s not just me, everything’s supporting me, so I can just be, rather than show. So the clothes I’m wearing, the jewellery my wife is wearing, the ghee on the daal, everything is holistically treated. It’s a well-made there’s a synergy between the production design, with the cameraman The production designer said, okay, he’s a Gujarati businessman, he’s got lots of money, he’s a bit loud, and he’s got this taste. The stakes are higher in some of these commercial movies, and it’s a tremendous opportunity if you act naturally, like how Akshaye Khanna sometimes acts really naturally in that commercial space, and it just makes the whole thing more enjoyable.

It’s a little commercial, but it’s classy, and I love the space of a commercial movie where there’s scope for tremendous drama and – obviously, you can ham it up and ruin it – but if you make it real, and you actually understand what’s happening in that situation, it’s pretty exciting. What category does 'Baazaar' fall under? Kind of both. I think it’s nice to have not got a fixed style of acting, things can get dated also. So there’s epochs that change – I mean ‘epochs’ is a bit of a big word – but every year there’s a change, and there’s a growth also, and if you’re modernising and moving fast you do feel that it’s a different scene.

My wife often tells me, ‘I don’t know if this will work or not, but don’t worry, it’s from the last lot!’.Īnd I’m like, what does that mean? You know, there’s 'Humshakals' and 'Bullett Raja' and ' and ' – that lot, ’coz that’s what we did that year the next lot was 'Rangoon', 'Kaalakaandi' and 'Chef'.Īnd then the web series and 'Baazaar' and '. There’s really that lot there’s a lot of films. Between your major roles till 'Chef', and since 'Kaalakaandi', your web series to now ', where you literally have a grey streak across your hair, do you see that as two different epochs in your career? I think every year seems like a different epoch now, things are moving so fast. The two men compete to woo the woman, but then it.īefore ', you spoke about working with a new generation of actors and how that upped your game. Synopsis:- Hum Tum Shabana is a comedy movie revolving around three characters, played by Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Minissha Lamba. But, he says, accusations have to come out from the cloak of anonymity to be credible. And in the presently unavoidable context of #MeToo, he says he is “absolutely in support” of the women who have accused Sajid Khan, that he has called out bad behaviour in front of him since his first film, and that he would not associate with any person found guilty of misconduct.

He talks about making commercial classy and allowing an actor to “be” instead of making him “show”.

Thinks things are moving so quickly in cinema that every year seems like a different epoch, and he’s much happier doing ' ' today, his latest, than he was doing ' and ' – which, he says, were “not cinema”.
